Day 3: Me: I don't have anything to lose.
God : I noticed something in your pocket.
The train journey and my first day in New Delhi taught me so many valuable lessons. I had booked a 3rd AC train ticket because I had heard from many people that North Indians tend to occupy seats in your compartment . I also had seen numerous troll videos and memes about North Indians, which made me quite fearful about the journey. However, upon reaching the train, I realized that most of the people in my compartment were from North India, with only a few Tamil people. To my surprise, they were all well-educated and well-behaved individuals. Despite the language barrier, we managed to communicate with smiles and innocence throughout the 37-hour journey. There was no fight for seats or berths, and everyone accommodated each other with mutual respect.
Upon reaching New Delhi, I encountered a minor setback when I realized that someone had taken my phone. Despite my attempts to call it, the phone was switched off. I was then warned by some locals to be careful as New Delhi is known for scams and thefts. With no other options, I went to a hotel room and waited until 10 am before heading to Jio Mart to get a new SIM card and a second-hand phone. An auto driver, Anna, advised me to seek help from someone who knows Hindi and has knowledge about phones to avoid getting scammed. At Jio Mart, I met a very humble person who understood my situation and guided me to get the same phone number without any trouble. He even suggested some phones that were within my budget. This experience made me realize that every situation has two sides and multiple stories.
Overall, my initial fears about North Indians were completely shattered during this journey. I learned that stereotypes are often far from the truth. The kindness and helpfulness of the people I encountered in the train and in New Delhi made me realize that it's important to approach new experiences with an open mind and without judgment. This journey taught me to be more understanding and accepting of different cultures and to always be cautious but not overly fearful when encountering new situations.
