Instead of flying from London to Prague last year, I did the journey with a âŞ@Byway-Travel⏠train trip, spending a night each in Paris, Zurich, and two other stops along the way.
I didnât plan it. I didnât choose where to go. I did no research. I just showed up for the journey.
And when I woke up on the 2nd morning, in Zurich, I started noticing people walking around in costume. Then, at 11:11, on 11/11, this party broke out.
đ The event is St. Martinâs Day, an ancient holiday celebrating the end of harvest and the beginning of winter in many Germanic countries, including Switzerland.
I think the kind of âEuro tripâ adventure that a lot of Americans want actually gets ruined by flights, efficiency, and trying to see the âimportantâ sites instead of experiencing the place with no expectations.
