Don’t forget someone could open the door while someone else is going up and hit them without seeing them

It looks like the house wasn't originally built that way, but was cobbled together with amateurish ("weekend warrior") modifications made over many decades.

Electrical panels are not allowed to be placed at a stairway.

You can see exactly what you’re talking about to by the cracks in the door near the handle someone likely used it to stop there fall. Also do you need any special education to do this job? Genuinely curious it seems better mentally for me than my current job as a electrician

my stars have all 3 features! when my daughter was literally 3, she tripped and fell and i ran to grab her, she was head first, halfway off the stairs, nothing but concrete and a 5 foot fall below, desperately grasping onto a coil of extension cord as her body was spread out, catching herself. she saved herself from a possibly cracked skull, and if i didnt come im not sure she could have gotten herself unstuck without falling.

also theres a row of 3 inch bolts protruding out of the wall, right at hand level, were you to reach out to brace yourself against the wall as you reached the bottom...

One could just use caution when going down to the basement.
What’s the alternative? A stairway remodel? Unnecessary modern day standards IMO
