I always used to think that Sherly&Watson duo was the best,but personally after thinking about it more,Poirot and Hastings dynamics are better. More complex,deeper and more enjoyable(Big Four,Curtain).
Parallels easily to Poirot(Mysterious Affair at Styles&Curtain parallels). Complexity goes to Poirot as well imo. His character at first seemed easy to understand,but his actions in Curtain made him more complex. SPOILER ALERT killing Norton really developed his character,also when he said that hole left by bullet reminded him the mark of Cain was really great statement,which can be used for many writing aspect.
Poirot has also better dialogues than Sherlock. As for his side dynamics,for me dynamics with Oliver is better than with Sheppard. In conclusion I think Poirot is better written,but seeing my fav character winning is always satisfies

I'd argue Novel Sherlock does have some inconsistencies in his characterization, mostly from that whole statement in ASIS that he knows nothing of literature, but in the other books he's shown quoting Goethe and Carlyle (whom Watson specifically said Holmes was unaware of prior)
