Why do planets all orbit the same direction? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceFl7NlpykQ

They all end up hitting each other. My anxiety and the gravity of the situation just pinned me to the floor.

Demo showing gravity using gravity.

This example causes people to misunderstand the effect of gravity. Objects don't "pull" other objects.

"Object warping Space/Time," the word you were looking for is gravitywell.

I remember an interactive exhibit very similar to this at the LA Museum of Science & Industry way back in the 1970’s

I know this channel repackages material from other sources, but recycling footage made nine years ago to create a TikTok-style presentation demonstrates a growing laziness. 😐

In this example, "gravity" adds a third dimension to the 2D surface. So could you think of gravity as adding a fourth spatial dimension in 3D space?

I've seen demonstrations like this before, but it's the first time I had this particular observation. In this example rotation around the gravity inducing object is not a uniform speed. Instead it accelerates as it approaches the object and then decelerates as it goes away, which makes total sense based on push/pull.... but I don't believe that's how planetary rotations work. I could be wrong but I always assumed Planets circle the sun at a constant rate.

I love your vids but detest this Tik Tok format.

They orbit the same direction because that how they were formed ? The sun is rotating in a clockwise direction (I could be wrong) and the accretion disk after the sun's formation probably flows in the same direction as a result. In my mind, it's like when you open a bathtub full of water and the mini whirlpool that forms spins the water one direction down the drain. I'm not scientist, and I could be way off

Well this is awesome... but the thing that is also usually not shown is how this happens while everything is falling through space together... orbiting around big gravity..without friction...

Worst visualization- watch Dialect or a comparable channel with a better visual representation.

And without the earth's gravity This marbles would not move

Same direction orbit is due to conservation of angular momentum.
In other words, the are in the same basic direction that the stellar accretion disc was going before the planets formed from their individual accretion discs

Excellent approximation of 3D space, making it easier to visualize spacetime, gravity, attraction and orbits.

There’s nothing new here. This is always the metaphor used in every textbook
