#zerowaste #shorts #switchtosimplify

Once upon a time, a friend told me about transfer buying.  It allows you to slowly but surely swap out the things that you use with better (i.e. less chemically or higher quality) in a way that is financially sustainable because you aren’t replacing everything all at once.  This is an easy way to introduce reusable products and simplify the inventory in your house as well.

For each item, I am going to let you know what the swap or switch is, and then what I see as the benefits in each of 4 areas… Environmental, Financial, Minimalism, and Health.

1. Replace disposable items with washable items.

2. Switch from hyper-focused cleaning products to multi-purpose.

3. Switch from chemical cleaners to natural cleaners.

4.Ask yourself if you need the item you are about to replace?

5. Choose a glass, metal, paper, cloth, or wood option in place of plastic if possible.

6. Reduce the frequency of showers.

7. Reduce the chemicals in your chosen shampoo or conditioner.

8. Reduce the frequency of hair washing.

9. Use a product dispenser in the shower to reduce product dispensed.

10. Switch to a safety razor for shaving.

11. Switch to reusable strips for waxing if you prefer to wax.

12. Switch to sugaring wax.

13. Switch to reusable towels or washrags from paper towels.

14. Switch to vinegar from fabric softener.

15. Switch to hang drying from using the dryer.

16. Switch to washing with water from detergent.

17. Switch to natural fibers from synthetics in clothes.

18. Switch to diffusers from air fresheners.

19. Switch to washable mop heads from disposable.

20. Switch to washable or reusable dusters from disposable.

21. Switch to Norwex if natural products like vinegar or alcohol cause histamine reactions for you.

22. Switch to single ingredient or pronounceable ingredients from more processed foods.

23. Switch to metal or glass straws from plastic.

24. Switch to travel utensil sets from plasticware.

25. Switch from one time use packaging for birthdays and holidays to reusable items like cloth and ribbons or gift bags.

Environmental- less trash to landfill since gift wrap options are not recyclable.

Financial- 1 time purchase, or free if you repurpose items you already have.

Minimalistically- Less to store, and less awkward items to store.

Health- Less stress from less inventory to manage.
