The Ivatt C1 is my favorite locomotive, not only because of its elegant design but also because of its story.
In 1936, one of these engines, No. 4404, which by that point had been demoted to Grantham station pilot and back engine, was called to take over the Kings Cross-Edinburgh Express from a broken-down A3. Not only did it manage to pull that 17-coach train, but it also brought the train to service speed and arrived at York and other destinations ahead of schedule.
(According to the accounts of Cecil J. Allen and the LNER database)
I mean, that beast was old, outdated, in poor condition, and lacking maintenance, yet it managed to pull the train almost twice the size it had been designed for, and yet it arrived early.
What a CHAD.

I have 272. My very first Bachmann purchase and I love my girl to pieces. I do plan to try and find someone to fix her, cause my granddad knocked her off the table by accident and I do genuinely want to have her fixed up so she looks prim and proper. I do want to buy like four more. All four being Nos.288 and 289 respectively.
