I use westpac all purpose JC but it keeps cracking after drying. Even if I add water and keep it moistened while applying. Do you make the batter consistency separately with water??

Hi :) what do i do if i have a canvas thats already been texturized and painted and sealed… i really want to change the paint color only - Do you think i should paint my new color directly over the sealed old paint? I cant sand the sealant off obviously because it will totally destroy the 3D texture
Should i use any specific type of paint? I have acrylic paint and spray paint available (does it matter?)
do i use a primer first? If so what should I use? Would gesso work?
