Earth was really showing off with this one 😍

The Partnachklamm near Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria is a breathtaking glacial gorge shaped by millions of years of geological activity. It was carved by meltwater from the Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain) during the last Ice Age. Since then, the Partnach River has eroded the landscape, creating the deep narrow chasm we see today.

In the 18th century, local workers would transport firewood from the valley through the gorge to Partenkirchen. This task was highly dangerous as logs often got jammed in the narrow passages. To dislodge them, men known as “Grieshaken” would be lowered into the gorge on chairs with small roofs to protect them from falling rocks. They used hooks to free the logs, risking their lives in the process. This work continued well into the 1900s when the walkway was built.

I first visited the Partnachklamm in the depth of winter a few years ago, Earth was really showing off with this one 😍

I first visited the Partnachklamm in the depth of winter a few years ago, when the whole place transforms into a true winter wonderland. It is dotted with massive frozen waterfalls and icicles, creating an absolutely surreal and magical landscape ❄️

Would you want to walk here and experience this incredible natural wonder? 🌿✨
