It's basically a tax con.. people at the top of companies do like to buy the land and rent it to their own company at a really high cost, company can be a zombie company.
My previous employer was a company who bought the business with land from the previous owner, then rented the land back to the company they were also a director of.. they also leased the company cars and van to the company from one of their other companies.

Most airlines do the same to avoid losing the planes if they go under. So the airline you buy ticket from actually rent "their own planes". If they go bust, the planes are technically in another company that only service the debt on the planes and "rent them out".
