Dressember Day 7: The Sabrina Dress

STORY TIME: In 2018 I was at the casting for my second runway ever. I was still super new to designing and I was just starting to wrap my brain around the fact that I was actually creating a fashion brand with all of my obsessive crocheting.
I had never set out to be a fashion designer nor did I imagine what this world would be like. At this particular, Model Casting there was another designer who was quite a diva and decided to make it his goal to see how many models he could make cry that day. He ripped the girls to shreds, and if they protested, he would tell them that they were just a hanger and to get out of his face. I was disgusted by the way he spoke to them and almost did not do the show because I did not want to be around him. Needless to say he and the other designers were not choosing their models for diversity.
When Sabrina walked through the door, I knew she would be perfect for one of the new dresses I had just made. This dress looked perfect on a curvy model, and Sabrina‘s fun and cheerful attitude made me sure that she would rock this look down the runway. I was the only designer in that show who featured a curve model. When Sabrina walked out onto the runway, the entire crowd went wild cheering and Sabrina stole the show! Being a part of that show taught me that the world was ready for representation in the fashion industry, and I had power to make a change. I believe that fashion is for everybody and every BODY. It is always my goal to cast models with diversity in mind making sure that everyone can come on my page and see themselves in my models.
