Eleven being the one who unintentionally opened the gate to the Upsidedown on November 6, 1983 suggests that she has to be the one to destroy it, or permanently close the gate to it in order to save Hawkins!
Eleven's character seems to be more & more mirroring the "Jesus-figure", who inevitably sacrifices himself to save everyone else, & so that's the most likely ending to her storyline!
As for Will, while he'll play a big role in S5 no doubt, i don't think they'll kill off his character, nor any of the other 3 main characters Mike, Dustin & Lucas. If anything, Will is being set up to be the one who defeats the big bad, or give Vecna/or the Mindflayer/Thessalhydra the knockout blow (fireball) to help save everyone else. This scenario brings it "full circle ending it with Will".... as the very same boy who vanished in S1 E1 will now end up saving everyone at the very end!
