It’s Impossible to Talk About Great #dementia Care If We Don’t Support The Caregiver

I’m at the airport headed to Alabama to give 2 keynote presentations. Of course we’ll be talking about dementia caregiving and success strategies for the most difficult of care situations. BUT, it’s impossible to talk about great dementia care if we don’t support the caregiver and acknowledge that this journey is hard for them too. That’s why I’ll be making sure to share key takeaways for caregiver relief as well! Talks about dementia care are incomplete unless we are also talking about what caregivers need to help them best deliver that care.

Many people overlook what the caregiver goes through.

Thank you.
My sister has been giving me such a hard time acknowledging the hard work in caring.
She brings up I am not doing enough.
She has not seen our dad for over two years. I would love an episode on how to positively deal with family while being the sole caregiver.

Unfortunately my wife with Dementia is having a hard time and I am too. Hopefully today will be much better for both of us. We moved to be close to a family member as she and my wife are very close but the help is just not happening.

SO True! We’ve both probably never been in this situation. Each person is unique in their skills, experiences & fears. Be patient, kind and creative 🤗✔

You have to really educate yourself if you have a loved one with dementia. I recommend the book The 36 Hour Day. It was written for caregivers because it can feel like the longest day of your life sometimes.

Amen !! 🙏I locked my bedroom door last night so my mom wouldn’t come it and terrorize me in the middle of the night 🙏. I give her, her sleeping pill and she’s still walking the halls at night thinking there’s guests we need to entertain
