The thicknessā€¦

The reason itā€™s thick is because the chemical reaction and bonding is doing itā€™s jobā€¦. By re-mixingā€¦. You are only adding more air and break apart the crystallization and bonding that is happening, thus jeopardizing the integrity of the thinset. Yeah, itā€™ll feel better/ easier to apply/ easier to work withā€¦ but less effective. Donā€™t do this In extremely important areas of your shower. Like the corners, floors, and high water contact areas. Always follow manufacturer recommended working times. Imagine letting the thinset completely dry and then breaking it into a powder and then adding waterā€¦.. itā€™ll look and feel like thinsetā€¦. But the chemical reaction has already taken placeā€¦. Not gonna work.

Ok this is a game changer. I want to know more. Can you do this more than once? At what point does the thinset become non viable? Doesn't the stiffening of the thinset mean that the cement is beginning to form and you're breaking up the bonds?

Be advised that once the pot life of high end thin sets, like Ardex X-5, X-77 and Uzine CX-20, CX-30 begins to ebb, the clock is ticking, so the remixed thin set won't stay creamy for long.
