As much as I would like to see the omnibusses return, sadly some of them have been sold to other places and some have been shipped to other parks. Perhaps the Imagineers could come up with some new ride vehicles that represent some of the countries that would provide transportation around World Showcase. Because as much as I love strolling (and eating) around the world, Epcot is brutally large, especially on hot summer days ☀️ 😭
A few of the vehicles in the fleet of omnibusses you see here were created specifically for Epcot in 1982 based off of Bob Geers original 1956 design for the omnibus in Disneyland, while two were imported from Disneyland. Its unclear exactly when the busses stopped operating (it seems like they phased them out over time) but past the 90s they only seem to be used in Epcot for character calvacades and not guest transportation.
As for the People of the World dolls… that’s a story for another day 😉

I miss being backstage waiting to preform every December for the Candlelight Processional. Best 4 yrs EVER! Meeting James Earl Jones twice!

The World Showcase Players is also missing! They were a great acting troop who picked guests to preform roles. It was a highlight of our 1980’s trip to see my dad up there.

We used to see a lady sculpt sugar candy in Japan. Might have been 9 years ago. I think k I recall the lumberjacks from an earlier visit. Have never seen Robin Hood. Wasn't until we were AP holders nearly a decade ago, we learned to explore further for the Duffy stamps and learned about some of the art exhibits in Japan, USA, and China.

I remember when I was at EPCOT that there was a Beatles tribute band playing in the background. That was lots of fun.

I'm pretty sure they got rid of the buses for the same reason ToonTown got rid of the Jolly Trolly; Having a vehicle driving down the path where pedestrians are constantly walking just never works out

Those friggin Omnibuses and the world showcase lagoon water taxis were totally awesome opening day when I was 9, and I mean friggin totally awesome.
In my 20s the busses were a pain to try and ride, and they clogged up foot traffic.
My 30s they both were pretty much gone, the top level of of an EPCOT Omnibus was an epic unforgettable ride 😢😢

Fun facts: universal use to have a tram driving through part of the walkable park areas and was envisioned with such a thing just like epcot. Use to be a trolley available in the magic kingdom on main street and I believe even MGM had something. Not the mention the old boat ride in animal kingdom. All the land vehicles were removed because of how unsafe/difficult it became to operate them as the parks became more popular. There is no real off season anymore and if you don't vividly remember that time you would not be aware of how much this use to push what looked to be a smaller crowd into a large huddle so the vehicles could get through. It was often uncomfortable even when there weren't a ton of kiosks for the festivals/new permanent ones. Not to mention the potential for out of control children/people today to run in front of one them (should see the lack of respect for not crossing into parades nowadays lol...).
I'm disabled now, and while I would love to not walk through world showcase the way we have to I'd really just like the boats back...they not as intrusive yet also do not run nearly as often and it really sucks they got rid of the animal kingdom ones.

The only way Disney would bring back the World Showcase busses is if Universal announced they're building another theme park in Orlando after Epic Universe. Probably a slew of wraps for the busses too.
