I explain why some 1-ups are only there sometimes. Specifically, some 1-ups are only there after you've defeated the first Bowser, and some 1-ups are only there after you've defeated the second Bowser.

Note: Defeating the second Bowser and not the first Bowser does NOT give you the 1-ups for the first Bowser.

If you used TAS to get in the basement early and beat B2 before B1, would only the top right and bottom right show up? Or would all of them show up since having beaten B2 assumes you already beat B1?

Some of these are probably too make the coin stars less punishing, but probably the first bowser area was used as a way of checking if the flags worked.

Nearly ten years playing this game, learned the science of cloning, how to abuse HOLP displacement, how parallel universes are abused, the precice details of walls, floors, and ceilings, how pendulums can be manipulated to allow for squish cancel spots to be strategically placed above them allowing Mario to ground pound to gain enough height to get to the cage in TTC but never knew that the spawning of these 1ups are Bowser dependent

Okay, now this is a mechanic I never knew existed! I always thought BotDW just had the lives at the top all the time, and that the lives were always there in BitFS. Wild to still be learning things about this game almost 30 years on.

I kind of realized this with the mushrooms in the seesaw section of Dark World. There were 1ups not there when I first played it but then I beat the game and just decided to go back to some previous levels after speaking with Yoshi and found 1up Mushrooms that weren't there before.
