The thing about not bathing is because at that time, doctors considered that the filthiness of the body, will keep the person “healthy” making all kind of germs go away. In other words, filthiness will protect and prevent the skin from getting infections and bacteria, when it is the opposite. And in order to bathe, you have to have a medical prescription to be able to do so. Furthermore , according to what I read, Queen Marie Antoinette only bathe when she got married…..after that, she. never did it again.

Foul odors coming from people not having good personal hygiene, was very normal and common in those times and it was acceptable. There were not deodorants at that time to use, neither soaps, they have to use other things available in that time. They use lots of perfumes to minimize the bad odors. And both men and women were the same way. Besides, in Jesus times was the same way and further back.

BUT the Egyptian civilization was one which was very clean according to my readings; they used different stuff to clean themselves, and used some other methods as deodorants . And the Egyptian civilization used to bathe several times a day.

It is very interesting to know how these past civilizations lived everyday. Very interesting indeed.
