I hate when I go to companies and they give me a dirty look when I say, “no thank you” about donations. I donate on my own time. I donate money and my time. I think it’s important BUT you should never feel pressured or guilted into do anything you can’t afford or don’t want to. It’s that’s simple

I've had jobs where I've been told I can get fired for not asking customers about crap like that. I get the frustration of the customer, but cashiers do not make the rules.
I remember once I had a lady come in and start telling me, the cashier at a gas station, that I needed to do something about the prices. I replied "Ma'am I'm a cashier. I don't have the power to set prices" And she got even more angry and snapped "well you tell your manager" and I cut her off and said "she doesnt set the prices either. You're looking for someone WAY up the food chain. We cannot help you with this, is there anything I can help you with?" and idk if she was just mad that I wasnt gonna let her yell at me over things I cant control or what, but she just left in a huff. It's wild how much power these people think cashiers have while also believing that retail workers are all beneath them.

Iremwmber being a little kid and crying up when my mom told me couldn't get something (i think it was like ice cream or candy) she didnt say anything likeshe usually did but just turned around and I think she was crying. I don't think Illever forget the regret I felt then. I put it back on the self, and hugged her. I think I remember running back and putting the other stuff back too. She paid with cash that day, and most of them were crumpled. Little details like those make me remember to try not to be a brat and ask for things all the time. Because not getting your eay feels bad, but seeing yourmother cry feels so much worse.

A couple of years ago a cashier asked if I wanted to donate a dollar to charity, and when I said no she rolled her eyes and was snippy with me for the rest of the transaction. When it came time to pay, my card declined due to insufficient funds, and a look of embarassment washed over her face.

Been there too. It’s really tough and there’s always people who insist that you aren’t poor just because you live in North America and you have a house. Even if that house is on the verge of being taken from you, and it’s full of fire hazards and black mold, so many people love to minimize the struggle. But I want to say, if you’re in this position, I understand you. I promise you’re not alone and all your struggles are so valid. I promise things can get better, it’s not easy but you are so worth it❤

At my job our supervisor would listen at the speaker to ensure we were asking "everyone" if they'd like to donate a dollar. We hated to ask, and never cared if they did or not, but it was still part of our job to ask. We only seemed off when people were very rude about not wanting to donate, because it wasn't that serious if they didn't want to 😅

Always interests me in these shows and movies whenever the person behind them in line gets mad. I’ve been in this situation several times and the people behind me were either keeping a straight face, reminding their business or they’re very kind and assuring... My mom often offers to help people when she sees them struggling like that he always found that kind.
I know this is tv, but if you are so irritated with a mother trying to figure out how to afford her groceries you have bigger issues to worry about. Yes, it might be frustrating and you might have places to be. But I guarantee nobody wants to be in your way, the mom wants to be able to afford groceries and the cashier definitely wants to keep the line moving and then go home.

I never give donations when asked by cashiers. I never know if that money is actually going where they say it’s going. I’ll donate to the cause directly
