“When you’re there, BE there” best parenting advice ever, don’t be the dad trying to capture the 4D cinema show with a camcorder, the memories of hangin out together will hit a lot higher than watchin a dark low res bootleg video with a bunch of strangers heads in the frame

Very well said about there needing to be a line. My little’un often comes out with ‘you’re not my friend’ (she’s 4 and doesn’t like getting told what she needs to do lol) my response, ‘I’m not here to be your friend, I’m here to be your dad.’
It was exactly the way my parents raised me and I grew up seeing them as both people who would provide and take care of me but also people who would have fun with me and I could confide in. When the balance is made, everything is right.

I've always thought it was more important to be a parent than a friend to your children but as my children grew older I've kind of changed that way of thinking. I think it is imperative to be a parent and a friend and to respect your children's boundaries all at the same time because that's what makes an amazing child grow up to be an amazing adult. that is why you are an amazing young man, because your dad taught you very well and The respect that you have for your dad is incredible and I really do applaud both of you for showing the world just how amazing you two really are...

I feel this. My dad worked a lot traveling out of town and when he was in town he really wasnt "there". He was tired/did his own thing. He didnt want to go to events. I think he missed most of my childhood birthdays, honestly. At least 50%.
I am now insanely independent and don't need no man. My brother is the COMPLETE opposite.

IF YOU DECIDED TO HAVE A KID... BE THERE FOR YOUR CHILD.
