Dementia is horrible. Especially for the families that are taking care of the dividend.

One of my mom’s signs of dementia is she forgets she bought something, so she has like 20 bottles of mustard. She buys a bottle every time she goes to the store.

My grandmother kept forgetting that my aunt passed. She had to re-live her daughter's death over and over. It was AWFUL.

We tried to keep grandpa at home when he was diagnosed with dementia but he started to turn aggressive and argumentative at every single thing, we decided he needed professional assistance and sent him to an old folks home it was taking a toll on our mental health.

Made me cry...it's a harsh truth many end up seeing before they know what it is

My grandma was the sweetest and gentlest lady my whole life. When dementia set in, she became combative and even violent. Now that she no longer knows who she is, she is having the time of her life. Last we spoke, she thought she was on a cruise. No need to bring reality into her much needed vacation.

My dad had Alzheimer’s and I took care of him after my mom passed. For 4 years I went through hell with him and would gladly do it all again to have him back.❤️

Dang. I work in the dementia ward and I have to say it truly isn't their fault. They're very I'll and my heart goes out to anyone who is dealing with this and their families.

My next door neighbor had dementia, but her family refused to believe she was sundowning, but they also didn't have to escort back inside when she'd sweep the snow in backyard with bare feet in her sleepwear, or have to turn off her AC on high and her vent free heaters on high too, or turn off her stove that melted the handle off of and smoke poured out of house, or heard her yelling for me (called me the other neighbors name but she meant me) out her door at midnight 3-5 days every week so i could look for her hubby that died 30 years ago for hours until I'd get her put to sleep while trying to get her family to come check her out... Finally i gave them 3 months to do something or I'd call senior services - then called them every week to remind them for 8 weeks, then daily for the last month, even called before i was on my way to senior services because her son & daughter both lived a mile away, they told "you gotta do whatever you gotta do", so they examined her who thought it was 1967 one minute & 1985 the next minute, or would tell a story from with parts from 4 different decades, her kids wouldn't talk to me after she got taken out of her house, which sucked because we were originally close. Lois was not only our next door neighbor for over 20 years, but she and i were friends, broke my heart to turn her into senior services, but i knew she would burn her house down around her & i felt guilty no matter what i did at that point.

I went thru dementia with my Mom. She passed in 2003. I still miss her everyday. I don’t regret one minute I spent caring for her and visiting her. We were blessed. She knew me & my 2 sons until the day she died.

I was so lucky this did not happen in my family. My heart goes out to the people this happens to, and all their families. 💜

I immediately knew it was dementia. My grandmother fell victim to it and it was so so terrible. She would stay awake all night and then walk around in the dark stumbling and eventually turning on the lights then bang on our doors to wake us up because she thought the neighbors were stealing from us. It took a lot of energy and time to convince her that it's not real. Many times she'd stay awake grumbling and murmuring curses and crying. It was hell. I'm glad she's at peace now, but I still miss her terribly. She suffered a lot and we did too. It was the worst time of my life and I'd never wish it on my worst enemy. My grandma was a selfless, kind and a vibrant woman but dementia turned her bitter and mean and evil, it was just sad to watch :(

No one tells you about dementia till you have a beloved one undergoing it! It is hard and drains both (caretakers and patients). My mom is currently with dementia and I am fraid of what life has in store for me whenever I reach her age (87).

My grandfather has dementia and he is hard of hearing. Living with him was a nightmare! This was before he was diagnosed with dementia. The struggle is real.

I watched my brother go through dementia. It’s horrible. The person you have known all your life is, essentially, gone and replaced with a stranger.
