What if your favorite crop is "yes"?
I always plant at least 4 of each every season. I like the variety! And the way I set my farm up it's very aesthetic with each row being a different crop.
If I actually had to pick favorites, though, it'd be down to potatoes, corn, pumpkins, peppers, and sunflowers.

Wheat: One day processing into flour also you get hay. Can't rely on Marnie to feed my animals.
Beets: 1 beet -> 3 sugar, Quite profitable. Used in a lot of recipes, including the blackberry cobbler which is my favorite.
