I’ve never understood the point regarding micro-transactions in Assassin’s Creed games or felt they’re as bad as people make them out to be. I’ve played every Assassin’s Creed game and I’ve never needed to buy anything to enjoy the experience, nor have I felt that skipping purchases limited my enjoyment.
That said, I do agree that the modern-day storyline is dull and unengaging.

Have no issue with people trying to write a witcher 3 plot. But ubisoft struggles to write basic plots. Though my issue is ubisoft takes assassins creed core of parkour through dense historic cities and tosses it in the trash can, just to try and be a bad copy of other games. Honestly I consider syndicate and unity the last true ac games for this reason. I just wish that one day ubisoft could learn how to write a good story. Or atleast copy paste naughty dogs style of writing knock off movies.

I don't really think AC did much innovation other than parkour and stealth options. Even though the newer games have limited those to some extent, it's not like the games are terrible. After replaying the games again and again, I think people look at the older games and prop them up as the most amazing games when they each have issues. Side content is the biggest problem, and it was so repetitive in the older games for me. Collectibles are all over the place, small events that clutter the map. Old AC had a story and mechanics that differentiate them from other games. Now, they still have fun stories, but people want the most perfect game over and over again. Examples are Syndicate and even Odyssey or Valhalla. The last two RPGs follow different plans with their goals. They aren't even bad games, but because what was before, people hate on them, and then years later, we see videos of Was I too Harsh or this game is Underrated. It happens over and over again, starting with the now overrated Unity.
