2심 재판에서도 A씨는 “애정과 집착에서 B씨를 도망가지 못하게 하려고 했을 뿐”이라며 살인 혐의를 부인했다.
반성 없는 A씨의 태도는 중형으로 되돌아왔다. 재판부는 ”피해자는 사지를 포박당하고 호흡이 곤란한 상태에서 홀로 버려져 극도의 공포와 육체적 고통을 느끼며 사망하였을 것으로 보인다”며 “납득하기 어려운 변명으로 일관하고 있어 반성을 찾아보기 어렵고, 피해자의 가족은 평생 씻을 수 없는 충격과 마음의 상처를 입었을 것으로 보인다”며 A씨의 항소를 기각했다.
이어 1심에서 내려진 지역 15년형에 대해 “검사의 주장처럼 너무 가벼워서 부당하다고 판단된다”며 징역 20년을 선고했다.
A씨는 2심 판결도 받아들이지 않고 대법원에 상고했지만 그해 12월 기각돼 징역 20년 형을 확정받았다.
