He is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow in Residence in Classics and Military History at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. These expressions of hostility toward Trump had nothing to do with the attempt in Butler. The kid was purely interested in killing a major figure, and Trump happened to present the first seizable opportunity. Hanson would know this if he approached this issue the way I imagine he approaches his scholarship.

It appears that conservatives and democrats alike do not mind using hyperbolic or exaggerated language until the "other side" uses the same language...then the crocodile tears like we see here come out. Vance is using the same exact language VDH is admonishing here on campaign stages regularly. I wish I could take his point more seriously as I absolutely agree rhetoric needs to be toned down but the lack of consistency makes this seem like a talking point for his Trump pitch rather than genuine concern. I suppose hypocrisy shouldn't invalidate his point to a certain extent, though.
