I see people in the comments saying no, only because Rootspring wouldn't have been born, or because it would have affected Needletail, etc. Or even people who say that Violetpaw should be killed in favor of Needletail, and here is what I think:

Needletail is to blame for Violet and Twig being separated because she insisted Rowanstar take one of the kits. She ignored Violetkit for a long time (until Alderheart pointed it out to her), so she treated her like a trophy to put on her shelf and never see again. She didn't even care about Violetkit. She constantly put that kit in danger by taking her out of the camp (Violet almost got killed by an owl). She is to blame that Violet ended the Kin, she started the rebellion that almost destroyed ShadowClan despite knowing that Darktail was evil (she saw him kill Mistfeather in cold blood) and tried to claim VioletKIT (A KIT) as her own, as if she was an object! Violet ended up with a band of bloodthirsty rogues because of her. Needle then manipulated Violetpaw, made her believe she was her only "kin" and forced her to attack her own sister (and Needletail herself physically hurt Twigpaw), sidelined Violet for Rain's favor, and instigated battles in which many cats were hurt. It wasn't until Rain died and something bad happened to her that she finally stopped acting like an idiot.

Violetpaw was traumatized because of her, Needle manipulated her and influenced her attitude, deteriorating Violet and Twig's bond for her own favor, she caused the collapse of ShadowClan (I'm not saying that the other apprentices aren't to blame though) anf she didn't care. She stopped only when her own actions began to affect her. For a long time she didn't even care about Violet, and she only used her to get closer to the Kin or for her own interests and it wasn't until karma hit her that she finally started to change.

She paid the price for all her actions by sacrificing herself for the kit SHE had claimed for so long as hers, the kit SHE had put in danger, the kit that was suffering because of HER. After all that, it was the least Needletail could do for Violetpaw since she was her "best friend".
