A good heat protectant provides more than heat protection though. Humidity protection, a nice silky coat on the hair (blow dried hair is already dryer so it's prone to tangling), and it's usually weightless in comparison to an oil.

I used oil & it gave me heat damage in a small section of my hair...thank goodness. I use the revair now, I use a heat protectant without oil...works great!

Had a hairstylist who did all my color services and silk pressed. Using heat protectant, I would get my hair pressed professionally almost once a month with NO heat damage. Saw a beautician for a hairstyle (sleek ponytail) who used oil sheen before I could say anything and am now growing out heat damage. It doesn’t matter at what stage (most of us naturals blow dry before straightening anyway) —- oil shouldn’t be used on the strands. I’m still not sure we should use it at all but that’s not what I’m here to say. Find a heat protectant you LIKE, but one that’s labeled to prevent heat damage.

All heat protectants manufactured is mainly alcohol and oil. Ive always used oil as a heat protectant, only enough to coat my hands, and took my time blow drying on low. Truly a very small amount goes alooooong way, you do not need much, maybe a quarter size. Never had any issues. Also if you use just a nice size amount, your hair will still flow lovely, and not be stiff at all. I think the only time you have a issue with your hair frying is when you use a bunch of oil.

This is not fully true. If you are going to use harsh heat you should use a silicone based heat protectant. Period!

You should definitely use a heat protector and not just oil. Most heat protectant have some type of silicone, and they have glycerin, which are both scientifically proven to protect hair from heat damage when exposed to high heat. Vegetable oils are not going to provide as much protection.

I have used this method on my hair. I love her products. The dryer she suggest works great for me. I start at the root on low while pulling on the hair. I then put it to the middle setting. My hair is soft and moisturizer all week. My hair is loving it, but everyone's hair is different.

Oil for blow drying? I guess is a good way to keep the hair from drying (crispy) out totally like a hot oil treatment (because it seems heat help hair absorb the oils), but if anyone is going to go the extra step of flat ironing it would probably be good to actually invest in a heat protectant product.

Avocado oil is definitely a good one.

This is pretty much like stir frying my hair in a pan. Oils DO NOT protect from heat. If anything, they do the opposite. I like using SunBum heat protectant. It leaves your hair nice and silky

You know im learning too much product for heat styling weights down our hair. I ditch the oil because i got heat damage and my hair was so oily and attracted the water in the air and my style would be ruined by the end of the day. I can see oil beads when you turned around and can tell the style isnt gonna last. Im using multiple heat protectand and just a tinest drops of it/one spirtz. Focusing on the ends
