I used to clip in regularly when I was riding anything other than a DH bike. Now Iā€™ve been riding flats regularly for over 10 years. I donā€™t miss clips.

I really like the race face chesters. Theyā€™re relatively cheap, durable and serviceable.

I call the clipless pedals system pedals. In order to use a word without a negation. It sounds silly to clip in on "clipless pedals".

I started on flat pedals and couldnā€™t find one I liked. Switched to shimano SPD for a while and was fun. The game changing thing for me was 510 riding shoes. Now almost any flat pedal I like. And now constantly ride flats.

Coming from BMX Iā€™ll only ride flat pedals, I constantly shuffle my foot position around depending on terrain or obstacle. Being clipped in seems like an unnecessary danger.

100 percent agree. A good sticky soled shoe and flats will lock your feet in incredibly, I'm never going back to clipless pedals.

I donā€™t get how people can ride with flat pedals. When I use flats, it feels like something is missing- similarly to driving a car without seatbelts

XC is clipless, downhill is flats. And theyre called clipless because very old style road bike peddles has clops that went around the shoe. We stopped with those to SPD style.... Clipless

Raceface Chesters are the perfect flat pedals for riders of all levels as well and they won't break the bank

More power delivery on the upstroke clipped for the inclines IMHO

Flat saved me a lot of time for falling with a insane reflex with the foot

Iā€™d rather ride flat because itā€™s scary when you go to get off your bike and you canā€™t remove your foot and you fall and even more scarier for me because I fell down a rock garden

Funny you should mention this lol. A few years ago I was on a group ride with the fellas in Auburn. I believe you were there too. Anyways, I had just tried clipless pedals. I ate shit and cut my knee to the bone. I had to pedal up and out to get to the emergency room. 6 stitches later and i always wear knee pads now, and always ride with flats.

I have a question for you. Do you think I could race enduro on a revel rascal with a 150mm fork?

ā€œCliplessā€ = no toe clips, all the rage in the 80s and very early 90s my bike has clipless pedals and I wouldnā€™t change them

Shin guards are cheap and I don't really notice them anymore after a few rides. I don't think I'll ever go clipless
