I swore I wouldn’t live in an HOA but they are everywhere. We bought our house in Indianapolis suburbs 2 months ago with an HOA and thankfully no problems! Just a really nice green space with volleyball, soccer, a beautiful swimming pool, and a new kids park and lots of neighborhood events. But I’ve seen some that are nightmares.

My HOA is a b. I had boarders around my flower beds and they were a navy blue, they looked great and I always got compliments on them. I had them up for 2 years and constantly got letters from the HOA to take them down. Now there are houses in my neighborhood that have the same color on their doors and bright red doors and the letters said we had to take them down because it wasn’t “cohesive”. Because it wasn’t an earthy color. After not taking them down the HOA threatened to sue us because we didn’t take them down. Unhappy to say we did end up taking them down, HOA is and always will be a b.

I can understand if they were caring for the street or community in the neighbourhood but they shouldn't be able to tell you what to do to decorate your home. We don't have this in Australia we might have little little community that might have something on a small scale but nothing like HOA. Its ridiculous, we live in suburbia have chickens in the backyard, neighbour plays the piano, kids outside climbing trees making jumps in the reserve. We paint and decorate our homes the way we want.
