This would have been useful to know back then, lost quite a few saves.

It does get mentioned, but only in the Japanese instructions.

This works because when you delete a save game, it doesn't actually immediately delete the data. It just kinda frees up the slot, so it can be overwritten (at which point it will really be gone.)

Fuck sake, this is really useful but unfortunately it’s 29 years too late for me! I needed this tip back in 1995!

Another trick we use to do to play copied games instead of modding the console, we'd keep the disk trap open and have a pen stuck to the lid pressing the button down to pretend to the console the lid was closed. Put in a real game until the ps sign came up then switch the disk fast. Use to work almost everytime.

I remember a childhood friend having a meltdown when he accidentally deleted his CTR save file. I had to go home early when that happened. If only he knew about this trick Lmao

Knew this 20 years ago after mashing buttons when I deleted a save on accident. I think it only work for like 15 seconds though.

I remember accidentally deleting my Resident Evil 3 save and being really pissed off. I didn’t touch that game again for over a week!

I've been doing this since 1999. It was on GameFAQs and in a few gaming magazines back then. Tips & Tricks was one of them.

Yes if you actually read the manual it does mention this feature, I had tge original system. I dunno if when sony upgraded the ps1 design they took it out or not. But if you had the original system the manual actually does mentions this little trick.

I remember when i was 12 years old everyone was saving up $120 to get there playstation chipped up so could play bootleg games, everyone's game collection went from 6-12 straight to over 50 games in just few weeks after getting that chip good times 😊

bro, I think I know why they did it like this, and that's because one time after I accidentally deleted the wrong save when I was little, I SQUEEZED the controller out of anger, and I ended up pressing those four buttons so it just came back. I'd assume that was intentional from sony, but that's just a guess

I figured it out on accident as a kid. Never needed it though. Was actually a bit annoyed it happened because I was making more room for new saves.
