The single greatest cover of all time. I literally tear up everytime I hear it or watch the video.

This song. I was going through my final drug withdrawal, the very last detox. This song, watching this music video after getting past the worst part of the physical symptoms but still in immense pain psychologically and emotionally, was so cathartic and forced the seeming world of neverending pain, loss, and regret out of me, to face genuinely... I cried and cried and cried until I couldn't cry anymore. I related to the lyrics and of course Loved Johnny Cash, and his beautiful Wife June Carter♡. Addiction is hell. My admiration for his courage and strength in showing his vulnerability and sorrow openly is beyond words. Nine Inch Nails was definitely on the Playlist Soundtrack of many memories of my youth.
This collaboration is brilliantly profound.
I have been drug-free since. I believe and am grateful that this was an intricate needed part of my path to healing fully.

Looking back at regret towards the end of your life is brutal...truer words never spoken.

The lyrics, music, and video are painful. I hold my breath... and then, I sob. So powerful.

When I heard the song along with the video…… it for me is easily in the top ten of all time from a purely emotional connection. So well done.

Cash was such an awesome performer and cross-genre pioneer that he developed a HUGE legacy while he was still alive and well. He was so big that he was able to give the 🖕🏼 to the industry establishment & only expanded his fan base further.
He took 'Hurt' and made it his own. It hit like a truckload of bricks. And when the news broke that he'd passed, the song took on an even greater sense of profoundness.

You didn't have to explain anything, the picture of Rick Rubin answered the question.

NIN has been my favorite (man) group since 1990, "Pretty Hate Machine" never left the tape deck in my truck for two years. I have no musical ability however always loved music for lyrics. That said, this song was meant for Johnny to perform.

My aunt was a respiratory therapist in Nashville and she dealt with Johnny a few times. He told her that she was full of shit one time because she always joked around with him and tried to make him liven up some. I guess it worked for a little while. We all know he died of a broken heart after losing the love of his life, June. RIP Johnny and June!

I love and highly respect Rick Rubin for this and how he came into Mr Cash's life at that time and turned it around for him
