Ambessa’s POWER Move (BATH SCENE Symbolism) | 1min Analysis #Arcane #shorts

Ambessa’s bath scene shows us some cool reverse symbolism. In a scene about Piltover’s blindness and vulnerability, you’d expect Jayce to be the blind and vulnerable one, but they have Ambessa blindfolded and bathing. But power move of Ambessa’s is designed to prompt Jayce into understanding the nature of the situation his city is in. She’s teaching him an idea about what blindness really means and what kind of strength his city should have. Arcane goes the extra step with its use of symbolism to deliver nuanced meanings tailored perfectly to their individual scenes.

Ambessa is easily one of the most entertaining mothers I've seen on the screen. She was only in arcane for a handful of minutes but made such an impact, explained so much about Mel, expanded the Arcane world, and made me laugh out loud.

That was a straight up power move by Ambessa. If you can stand up, stark naked, and intimidate the one standing over you, that's power.

I love that any naked scene or sexual one has a REASON to be in the show and is not for fanservice like other shows do

this, or 'even in a vulnerable state, she's so powerful and intimidating that she's still the scariest one in the room'

Good point about exposure. Taking off her armour just shows her true strength, her muscles, her scars, her (personal) power and Piltover is all facade, take it off and what's left? Corruption and incompetence.

Great analysis as always!

Also this is one way to have fanservice be a part of the storytelling.

the fact they gave her this blindfold makes me think that they had this exact thought behind it. Truely an amazing show

There's something interesting I learned on my art history courses and it's that she'd be, by definition nude, and not naked. Naked implies vulnerability, but not nude. I know it's kind of a minor nitpick, and most of the time they're used interchangeably. I think it's important, however, to keep note of because as you said, Ambessa definitely does NOT feel vulnerable in this scene.

Overall, this scene was funny, but also showed some of the many facets of two of Arcane's incredibly interesting characters out of its memorable cast.

I got a weird kick out of her asking if they teach military history in Piltover since it’s what I studied. I was like ‘ehehehehhe yeah take that STEM boi’.

This was such a powerful scene for her. I really liked that Jayce was squeamish, because it emphasized how much power she had in the scene. She had him come there in that moment for a reason. She wanted him to squirm. She wanted to show what true power is like. I love the raw energy of her in this scene without the "male gaze" of me wanting to see her naked. It was such a power play, and that was all I took from it as a result.

Her scene reminded me of the Scene in Game of Thrones when Jamie and Brianne were taking a bath together. He was mocking her and all of a sudden she got up, full on naked, facing him. It played at the idea GOT toyed around with a lot in the earlier seasons: Embrace who you are, so others can't hurt you. Brianne (and Ambessa) getting up naked in front of men signaled: I know who I am. Even at my most vulnerable, you can't hurt me - and now DARE look at me. Of course the other looks away because their own weakness is exposed by the powermove they just witnessed. They don't know how to deal with this level of confidence.

Actually ambessa translates to lion in Amharic which fits her character

Ambessa really intimidates but intrigues me! Her introduction was GENIUS as is every scene she's in, but the way she got under Mel's skin merely by showing up is amazing, and I really, really, really hope we can see some of her homeland in season 2 or future shows! I'm so excited to see what a culture is like that spawned such a warlike woman!

It also shows that she's strong enough to be "vulnerable", by blindfolded and exposing herself, she shows that these things do not affect her and make her no less capable or dangerous.

I really like how Victor's story references, Frankenstein (the book specifically). If you weren't forced to read it in highschool. Brilliant young scientist named Victor Frankenstein pushes science and eventually creates life. This monster turns out to be sentient. Makes requests of Victor leading to the monster killing his bride as revenge. Also Victor has a teacher who pushes him to explore the darker parts of science and the whole story is told from Victor to a sailor on a boat. Lots of stuff taken fun to spot the inspiration.

0:36 "Nothing but weakness under this glittering exterior" fits Piltover but ironically not really Jayce himself. Dude is a unit.
