The English identity is an identity built on exceptionalism, bluster, and false claims.

It's a difficult identity to manage and maintain, and is highly fragile and vulnerable to critical analysis because: it's just made up...and filled with half-truths, or just: blatant lies.

If the (English identity) story is given up, and truth is let out, the identity crumbles as reality takes its place. And the English, metaphorically, lose their pants (and their fragile identity). You just have to poke the English identity just a touch, and you'll see it crumble before you.

The fragility of the English identity is the reason why the English go to such great lengths and extremes to control narratives, to control story lines about the world (historical, cultural, political, etc.) and to gaslight as often as possible. If they can control story lines, and people's attention, they can divert the attention away from themselves (and their made up English identity) and onto someone or something else. Which is one reason why you see them triangulating groups against each other...frequently.

Anyhow, in this instance...in this video...there is a glass-stained depiction of Jesus standing atop of dejected looking Roman warriors. The odd thing about this is: Jesus is holding an English flag. Which, is odd because, as any good historian would know, the nation of England didn't exist during the time Jesus was alive.

The second odd aspect of this gas-lighting piece of art is that, while it's clearly a pro-Protestant work of art...it's located within a Catholic church (in Nottingham, England).

So, what that means is...the English were so desperate to control the religious narrative that they entered and decorated a Catholic church to reflect the way they want history to be interpreted. As opposed to, simply allowing reality to be reality, and to keep their paws off a place they don't belong: the Catholic church.

A Protestant belief is that they are "chosen people". It's one reason they are so rigid and incapable of seeing themselves as in the wrong.

ENGLISH IDENTITY AS AN EMPTY BALLOON
The English Identity is less of an organic, living, breathing thing. And more of an empty balloon that requires constant filling up. By itself, it's empty, and, well, just not real.
