They are such an amazing dog! When we got them on the police dept it was a game changer. When a handler said the dog is off leash everyone got back in their cruiser, you wanted no part of that dog looking for someone. In our police fugitive unit where I was for 13 yrs we would stake out a place, confirm the subject was there and do an entry with K9. The subject was found so quickly so you was not at so much risk searching everywhere someone could hide. The dog would go in crawl spaces, up in attics, just anywhere and loved it!
Just incredible. Great interview!!

The guy who taught me to train dogs had a Belgian Mal. That dog was the sweetest, sharpest dog Iāve ever seen. He could do bite work and then just be chilling with us in the garage playing around with the tug toy or getting belly rubs and back scratches. He could turn it off and on like a light switch. I think he was 65lbs but when he was on the sleeve it felt like you were wrestling with a dog twice his weight. He was incredible, so I modeled my Czech GSD to be like him. Protective, smart, loved to train and work, knew when it was time to work and time to play, and could just hang out and chill around the house too.
RIP Koenigš
That said, I donāt like police K9ās. As a dog trainer myself, I know how simple it is to train a dog and police K9ās allow for widespread police abuse of power with basically zero oversight
