When I joined the church (Pentecostal denomination), I fell in love with the Holy Spirit and was blown away by how ACTIVE He is- ALWAYS moving. There is a great emphasis on speaking in tongues in the Pentecostal denomination. Many people attending the Pentecostal churches put a lot of pressure on their brothers- and sisters-in-Christ to speak in tongues- somuchso that many Christians buckle under the pressure and force it- straight up fake it. (Not good.)
I got nervous when I first spoke in tongues because my prayer language didn't sound the same as other's did... and my one hand shakes in the presence of the Holy Spirit... and I could not speak in tongues en promptu- I could only speak in tongues when I was filled up to overflowing with the Holy Spirit. I thought this was so strange, at first, and I questioned myself a LOT as to the authenticity of what I was experiencing; but as time went on and I grew closer to the Word, I recognized that though the Lord loves us all equally, He uses us all differently. He gives each of us a unique combination of skills, talents, abilities, and spiritual gifts and equips each of us for the unique thing He has placed us on this earth to do.
I am slowly trying to comnect the dots and see when the Holy Spirit consistently moves inside of me. I noticed that when I am under a great amount of stress or grieving, I flip over to speaking in tongues. I will also flip over to my prayer language when demons are around or I am praying because Isense someone is in danger... or when my heart is heavy... and when I am filled with compassion for someone. When I speak in tongues, I physically feel so close to the Holy Spirit- I can pbysically feel the presence of the Lord- even His horses and chariots of fire surrounding me 🔥 🔥 🔥. I feel at that moment that the barrier between the physical and spiritual is less present at that time and I can physically feel the angel of the Lord encamping around me. His presence is beautiful and awesome- powerful- and I can FEEL the Father's love for me. It is touching when He shares that beautiful gift with me.

I’d love to go into the Greek with you, for the way you are describing it is more of an American style. I am not someone who claims all must speak in tongues. However, what you are saying is that “gifts” are more akin to Christmas presents or something, and they are not. The word “gifts” meant “manifestations of the Holy Spirit.” And if you believe that only certain believers can manifest the Holy Spirit, you are missing out on what God desires.
If someone was in need of a miracle, but you say, “hey, that’s not my gift. Let me go call my friend and he can be here in a few days.” If someone gets hurt and needs healing immediately, but you say, “hey, that’s not my gift. God wants you to suffer,” or something to that effect. I believe you are limiting the Holy One of Israel in ways that He does not intend to be limited.
Please do not take this as disrespect. I mean none.
