Our experience has shown that the highest performance comes from the use of wear face stiffeners to reduce BFD (trauma reducing plate) and crack arrestors on the strike face. Crack arrestors limit ceramic particle ejection and enhance multiple hit performance by reducing adjacent tile damage. This plate is 10x12” edge to edge alumina ceramic and weighs in at 7.5 pounds. The backing plate is a combination of standalone and adequate UHMWPE layering for RF3 protection plus carbon and aramid stiffeners in a secondary component. The stiffener (called a trauma reduction plate) may be removed and still pass NIJ approved lab tests… reducing the weight to 7.2 pounds. Even at the lighter weight we retain the crack arresting layer.
