Yes my fob battery died while out in the bush and I started the motor as you said. Now I keep a spare fob battery in the glove box. Also, I changed the battery on both fobs at that time, just as a precaution.

I put the Tube Doors on my JLU and drove it around for a week with no issues. But one time I locked the Jeep, using the Key Fob, to go into a store. When I came out the Wrangler wouldnt' start...something about Key Fob Not Recognized and the engine wouldn't turn over by pushing the start button or by using this method. After having someone help me try to jump-start it and calling AAA I finally remembered I had locked it via the Fob. Once I unlocked it via the Fob it worked perfectly. Ugh! My fault for sure but a more meaningful error message would have been helpful.

The comments are ridiculous, it’s good for the city and not bad for the mountains. Much better system than most other cars. When my key battery started going down I changed it before I ever had to use this method.

I found out that jeep keys are kind of universal the other. A jeep wrangler car alarm was going off I was I offered if she wanted to try my key and it worked lol stoped the car alarm

Had slightly different issue. After removing doors, vehicle wouldn’t start and told me to push ignition with key fob. Yes I still put foot on brake. That still failed. I hit the door unlock button and then keep started normally by just pressing ignition with foot on brake.

It's a proximity reader built in. You just need to hold it near the start button. You don't have to push with the fob itself.

How long can you continue to do this without replacing the battery, before it wont start the car any more?

Even though these tips are in the owners manual, it is still nice to see a video short on these as a reminder. One tip not in the owners manual...keep the lug nut key in a prescription bottle labeled appropriately and in a convenient location with the jack and lug wrench. The prescription bottle can be drilled with holes to allow it to be zip tied to the jack or lug wrench.
