I thought OK was just short for okay, but apparently okay is long for OK

It's always comforting to remember that we've always been this way.

“Out of kash” is hilarious for a nickname! Didn’t know they were roasting like that back in the 1800s! 😂

Isn’t there actually an entire Wikipedia page devoted to potential etymologies of OK?

This is debatable. Through my years I have heard so many explanations for OK that I have lost count. I even heard one when in Greece, that claims it is from the Greek language. "Olli Kala," roughly "everything good."

In Japan, NG (no good) is popularly used as an antonym for OK. For example pass/fail may be represented with OK/NG.

OK's origin is actually not quite that clear, there's a whole list of etymologies that have been proposed for this word

Oh some people in the UK still say nuff ced, but I didn't know there was an abbreviation of that abbreviation we weren't using 😂

As someone that speaks morse code, the fact that he spelled "ok" wrong mildly infuriated me

Great info! I wondered how it came to be.
I'm actually surprised that people weren't more sticklers for misspelling.

FYI the Morse code you show spells "I K". Two dots * * = I. O should be _ _ _ or 3 dashes.

That is only one hypothesis for the origin of "ok". It could also be from the german printing phrase "ohne korrektur" (roughly "without korrektion").
Or the greek "ola kala" (roughly "all is good").
OR it was an American civil war gesture which meant "zero killed".

Yes it was made popular via van Buren, but the origin is not known.
