Gonna be honest here, until you zoomed in and explained that it was 2 hands, I thought it was one long hand.

Tangents also create tension in a piece. They make people uncomfortable even if they don’t understand why. It’s perfect for Nosferatu!

Honestly I kinda prefer the edit at the end where you gave an example of what you could have done xD the normal version of the image is a little hard to tell what's going on.

tbh it added more drama, action and movement when you moved his arm 👍

Great picture but I couldn't tell it was his right hand until you pointed it out so I don't think it really worked in that way. To me it just looked like the left hand continued on and was abnormally long and distorted.

while everyone will have a different opinion, i think the outcome of this short actually explained how breaking a different art rule actually made most people enjoy the piece more. when you moved the hand, you said you were interrupting the line of motion. however, lines of motion do not always have to be continuous to create the line of motion in the viewer's eye. when you moved the hand, the painting went from something that looked both still and a little confusing, to an image that depicted a motion of two hands lurching forward in motion- even though you broke the line, it looked like it was moving more than before. i think it also is a good example of how many times i try drawing something while breaking an art rule going "it's fine, it's on purpose" but then later when i try to fix it i realize all along that art rule actually makes the piece better and i should have listened XD

Personally I liked it when you moved the hand more, but everyone has a different taste in these stuff so it doesn't matter

Very interesting! the tangent creates a focus area on his hands and when I first saw it I thought had some seriously long fingers lol

- Whats wrong Officer, was I drawing too fast?
- No, you curved on tangent :)

Yeah, I was confused by the tangent, I read that as one long hand, or him recoiling with motion blur.

I thought it was his nails or something, but the edit that you did at the end felt better in composition to me, it was more clear.

It’s funny how we all agree that fixing it looks better, but you’re the artist so nobody is gonna change your mind. Whether it was intentional or not.

I prefer so much the "fixed" version. In first glance I saw long nails and after you pointed out I understand that was the other hand. But the work is outstanding as always and I liked a lot...

The tangent makes me think Nosferatu's hands were too long. And yes tangent is quite destructive since it doesn't show any visual depth to the image.

I really push to avoid tangents. Nothing breaks the immersion of a drawing than seeing two things that seem to be touching when they shouldn't be.

A painting i recently did wasn’t giving the effect that I wanted and I couldn’t figure out why - until now. Now I understand! Thank you!

I believe this works in this exception not only because of the sense of motion but it has a surreal look to it that plays nicely into to story being depicted 👏🏽

Doesn't work for me personally, I don't like what the tangent does for the painting. I don't like the flaccid line of motion, it makes the vampire feel unthreatening and cuts a weird swath through the image. Also leads the eye towards the guy's groin but maybe you were going for that. When you moved the hand at the end I thought it worked better.

Tangents can also be useful if you want a 2D look, like some of Klimt’s paintings

Amazing! I love the rhythm and gesturr the two hands make!
