I'm a foreign student here in Portugal - I'm Brazilian, as my parents are. HOWEVER, I intend to become a Portuguese citizen in the near future since I have strong Portuguese heritage form both sides of my family (6 of my 8 great-grandparents were Portuguese labourers) and I LOVE this country, even before Brazil itself.
Portugal is going through a HUGE immigration crisis that is not being reported on the Media. Hundreds of thousands of Brazilians (and some are racist towards the Portuguese) and Africans and some tens of thousands more of Southern Asians, especially Indians. A huge amount of them are neither conservative or neither want to contribute to the country.
There's a small nationalist party here, Ergue-te! (Rise up!), which I also intend to join in the near future.

Because they want to bring their culture over, and the Democratic party gives them multiculturalism.
So they can have their own "country" right within the US and do whatever they want includes the "conservative values" they believe in.
I'm saying this from the perspective of a Vietnamese immigrant who loves traditional Western Christian culture.

One time I asked why conservatism isn't the same from others conservatism despite sharing the theme of valueing traditionalism and someone replied to me saying that there's a cultural, racial, and ethnic factor to their own conservatism. That White European culture is different from Black African culture, and Black African culture is different from Asian culture, and Middle Eastern culture, and Latino culture and so on and so forth. So basically to answer this question you can have two people groups who claim to be conservative of their cultural values, but their cultures plus their race and their ethnicity are different from each other. White conservatism, Black conservatism, Asian conservatism, Hispanic conservatism, etc. White interests are different from Black interests, Asian interests, Hispanic interests etc. So basically: it's identity politics. It's identitarianism aka tribalism.

I’d also say that Trump’s rhetoric about rapists and drug dealers coming over the border fueled it as well. I remember seeing a conservative podcast that had on a Mexican American guy from Texas talking about how he didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 despite being a conservative leaning person due to Trump’s calling immigrants drug traffickers and him feeling it was a personal attack on the Hispanic community at large.

Conservative LGBT+ people have a similar situation. Many want whats legitimately best for the nation, like aspects of the GOP platform, and dont care about lots of the Democrat platform, but when you have a Republican senator responding to a trans person's passing as "Good, we don't want them here", or the Texas GOP fully expelling the Log Cabin Republicans, then a desire for self preservation tales over and any GOP sympathies get thrown out

Conservatism, does not mean the same, it not a catch all.
What is it Conservative of? that is the question that must be asked.
