This is so true. I'm a pro level drummer not famous lol but I make a solid living just playing session and gigs/ live. I grew up with a horrible home life with horrible parents, mother was a heroin addic and father a bad alcoholic but somehow I talked them into buying me my first full drum kit at 9 years old and never looked back and now at 40 I got my dream setup and I have almost literally played every single day of my life after getting that first kit.

I remember being like 5 years old just flipping through channels trying to find Nickelodeon. I didn't know the channel number but knew it would come up shortly after passing MTV, but this one day "Give it Away" was playing. I flipped past it but something called my kindergarten self right back to that video and a fan was born. As a little black girl, granddaughter of a preacher, youngest child in a family FULLY committed to black music and southern Christian values, my interest in RHCP was immediately attacked. My mom told me it was "devil music," my bros said i was "acting white" and would catch heat at school for it. I was told I had no taste and it was a phase I'd outgrow. 30 years later, and I only love them more now. The best part is, I'm grown so I can blast their music how I want instead of sneaking to watch MTV with the volume mad low 😂. Growth
