Concepts of Prepping

Being prepared can look like a lot of things for a lot of different people. That is why we are going to focus on concepts that you can mold and adapt to your own life, rather than getting into specifics. These are concepts that should drive your preparations as you become more aware of some of the difficulties you can face, and hopefully help you prioritize where to prioritize your time and money.

The first concept is Community is a foundational aspect of being prepared because every emergency becomes more manageable to overcome when youre not working alone.

Isolationism is not sustainable. An emergency plan that involves fighting your neighbors back from your stockpile is not sustainable. Only with the help of those around us can we overcome problems that are bigger than us.

Community can be a lot of things. It can be a close knit group of friends who are all aligned and working together or a broader organization of folks with shared interests. But it can also just be your neighbors. Yes, even the far-right pastor next door. Your neighbors are the ones who are there and present when things go wrong, and knowing them and them knowing you can make a life saving difference.

Be an advocate for who you are and what you believe by showing up for people who are different. No ideology is made stronger through fundamentalism. Connect with others, find common ground, work together to help those who need it most.
