It's scary how relatable that is for me...
My mom would cut my hair any time she thought it made me look like a schlub or clown. I hide everything from her because anything she doesn't approve of, she throws away when I'm not at home. I forced myself to stay away from people in middle and high school because she looks down on everyone I try to hang out with unless she can gain something from them. I am desensitized to her screaming at me, but now I get panic attacks if someone else yells at me suddenly.
Eventually, I plan to move away and go low-contact. However, currently I still live at home and talk back to her if she tries to manipulate or yell at my siblings or my father...

I’m a preschool teacher
And I always make sure that when I know my students have done something bad but not insanely horrible
Like take a toy from a friend
Or say a bad word or mean thing
Something that happens pretty much every day
Cuz they’re 4
I go
“Hey, did you do X?”
They of course
Say no
They did not do that
So I say
“I need you to be honest with me, you won’t be in trouble if you tell the truth, but you’ll be in big trouble if I find out you lied to me”
Of course
I already know the real answer
They did in fact do the thing
So if they lie again
I tell them I know they lied
And I saw that happened
And they’re in trouble for lying to me
(It’s nothing big
Just a “break” aka put your toy down and sit on the carpet for 2 minutes)
And then I explain that we’re learning how to be honest, and that in this class, being honest will never get you in trouble
Recently
Kids have started to listen
I’ll ask them to be honest
And they’ll just, tell me
They’ll go
“Ya… I did”
And I think they expect to get sat out on a break
But instead I give them a hug
Ask them to say sorry for what they did to whoever they did it to
Then go let them play
Normally when they’re caught in the act
They have to sit out
Or get a talking to
But if they immediately admit what they did
They’re not in trouble
All they gotta do is say sorry nicely
And they’ve started to connect the dots
Be honest with teacher
Get rewarded with less trouble
So, honesty=good
But sometimes I’m scared they’ll go home
And use that lesson, and it won’t end so well with their parents
I know we have mostly good parents in my class
But I still worry about it sometimes
I wanna teach them to be good people with honest hearts
But if that’s not safe for them
I don’t wanna teach them to get hurt by telling the truth

I hope this doesn’t freak anyone out too much!
I was a victim of my circumstances for so long and I just want to help us all feel free from our childhoods.
The more we know, the faster we can heal.
Happy healing friends 🤗❤️✌🏻
