Since 2019, the Church’s Transitional Services initiative has assisted more than 26,000 individuals like Garrett, regardless of their religious affiliation. These are men and women who have struggled to stand on their own feet after exiting correction facilities, facing homelessness, or falling victim to human trafficking, mental health issues, domestic violence, and more. Transitional Services aims to follow the example of Jesus Christ in loving our neighbor and helping those in need.

“I’m a guy who’s just trying to rebuild his life after a setback. Back in 2002, I ended up working too hard and ended up turning to some substances I shouldn’t have. I had to pay for that with about 10 years of prison.

“President Smith there, over the prison, got ahold of me and pointed me in the direction of the Transitional Services before I got out. I remember his letter to me said, ‘You know, that’s what we’re here for. It’s our pleasure to help, so please let us do that, because you uplift people with music in prison. Let me help you when you get out.’ I’ve been very lucky with some good people that have helped me along that path.” —Garrett

President Uchdorf stated that church is like a mechanic shop where we are in for repairs. (Not exact quote) We all are working on something and trying to overcome bad habits whatever they look like for you. No one is perfect, and we need help and support each other. Edifying and uplifting one another in the gospel. ❤😊

Hey brother, we all fall down...thanks for telling your story. My son spent time in prison, I love hearing the hope in your voice and I'm cheering for your success, whatever it looks like❤.

This is so amazing to see the change in this man! I actually work at the DI, and it really shows that if you work for the church, if you don't work with the church, or whatever background you may have, the Savior will help you overcome your heartaches and worries! Have a blessed day!

This reminds me a lot of the story of the Good Samaritan. The good Samaritan didn't know whether the person he saved was "good" or "bad," but he helped him anyway. Sometimes, people need help, and even though they look like criminals on the outside, they are hurting on the inside, and all they need is for someone to help them.

What a beautiful way to help those in rehabilitation that are transitioning from detention back to civilian life. The Savior is honored at such acts of kindness.❤❤❤

Our Heavenly Father invites us all to come unto him. I know his arms are always outstretched to me when I need him. No matter how small or large a trial you might have. He can work mighty miracles in our lives ❤

I wonder how long this transitional help has been around. I didn't know about this. Too late for my brother, but what a great idea!
