Also, this is the trouble with college. I found the same thing in art profs. They think you have to buy into the system and be discovered. Personally, i think it's just another business to learn and work at.

Actually. Nobody gets a PhD to start a business (I hope). Profs do research and teach. Totally different skills. And totally more than a full time job if you want to get tenure these days. Just b3 ausw you have done something doesn't mean you can teach it.

Ohh wow! I found this exactly when I needed the most. I recently got interviewed for my PhD program, after interview I visited the labs and some of the people who are already in their 3rd or 4th year,and to my surprise some students were in their 7th year as well, I talked to them and I relaized how clueless they are just because they ain't getting the result that they seeking. And honestly thats also kinda change my positive mindset into negative thoughts (the fear of failure), because its the most common thing in PhD and from that day onwards I'm in a dilemma of continuing my PhD or just leave and look for something else. All I want to say is that "Environment plays a very huge role" when it comes to positive mindset success or failure and PhD's environment are very grey where people with very positive mindset turned into failure mindset just because they see most of their result fails, their supervisor constantly mocking them, which eventually breaks their confidence which they initially had. So eventually their environment and the people around them are somewhat responsible for this kind of mindset.
