It was the right call because Scott had the same problems as Layne had with drugs and it had the same outcome. Layne Staley has been and will always be my favorite singer of all time, as an addict myself I know how hard it was for the people who cared about me at that time so I’m pretty sure they didn’t want to go through that again, and Jerry just wants to make music and not have the problems.

Scott isn't a clone. He would've brought his own identity, his ego would make sure of that. He's more like an alternate universe Layne with all the bad habits, and more of a diva(from what I've read) he sounded a lot like Layne in some ways. It would've been interesting that's for sure, but history repeating itself with Scott passing would definitely have destroyed AIC for good.

Wow this is very interesting yeah it would have definitely been cool to see Scott weiland one of the greatest frontmen a true legend may he continue to rest in peace and a very legendary man like Alice in chains ⛓️ one of my favorite bands of all time if they would have chosen Scott I'll definitely would have been all for it I guess it is what it is I respect Jerry Cantrell and the band's decision rest in peace Layne Staley 😢💔😪🕊️ rest in peace Scott weiland the world the music world will never be the same without you!!

I think Jerry and band mates made the right choice 💯by not asking Scott to be their frontman. Jerry knew what he was and wasn’t looking for ;he obviously knew Scott wasn’t going to workout so the part was never offered to him. Imo, I think their personalities would’ve clashed from the beginning,therefore making it difficult to work as a band. #RipLayne #RipScott

I think Scott and Layne sang similar plus had same drug problems went through lot with Layne Stanley didn't not want to perform sometimes and put the rest of the band in bad place in their careers can't blame them And people forget Jerry could sing and sang with Layne in most Alice in chains songs that was ever performed . And the way William DuVall and Jerry company each other is unique in a way they both play guitar it's sort of a different dynamic than it was when they first started when Layne was in the band it's great sounds good it's better for them to have a singer who's not strung out all the time rather it's William DuVall or whoever just the way I feel about mainly cause I think Jerry has a beautiful voice sing very well I wish Jerry and rest the band best in there music 🎶🎵 keep rockin

I heard this differently...they had different front men sing during their shows as a tribute. I don't think he was trying to be their front man. I prefer Scott Weiland, as He's my favorite front man.

I love STP second to Alice In Chains, but glad they didn’t go with Scott. I don’t think they wanted to go down the path of another frontman with a substance issue especially that many years into the game. It was already hard enough to work with Layne especially after the Dirt days. Tripod was a very vivid culmination of the band’s ongoing issues and at that point it was already too late for Layne to turn things around.
