Boeing changed when they bought McDonnell Douglas. They turned from an engineering lead company to an accountant lead company. No offense to accountants, my father is one and they do important work, but it’s the wrong approach for this industry. Spending so much time in Seattle as a child, Boeing was one of those symbols of American innovation. Sadly not the case now.
The big problem is the FAA delegated so much to bullying, because for so long they could just take their word for it. This lack of oversight is not a new thing, but it had never been a problem because Boeing had taken their responsibility very seriously. Sadly they worried too much about profits and not enough about doing it properly and it cost people their lives and Boeing a ton of credibility

Frontline, I love your work. Your long format deep dives are essential to telling the whole story. I don’t recommend anyone binge watch your docs though. Doing so will convince a person that everyone, everything and everywhere, is horrible, all at once. I’m not asking you to change your principles but every now and then can you guys slip in a doc or two about something good, or happy? You know, something that redeems the human race for a change.

So basically, Boeing was this amazing company that valued everybody’s safety and the workers did their jobs very well and they called it a “family” they were that close. Boeing was #1 safety and the best of the best. Until one day McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing and everything started going down. They don’t care about the safety about anybody employees or the planes. The only thing they cared about was money. Before they had around 15 people making sure that everything was perfect and ready to fly. Can you guess how many supervisors there was after? One. They finished a plane and test flew it and left a WHOLE LADDER inside of the plane… yeah, so Boeing was an amazing company until McDonnell Douglas merged with them.. so sad honestly :(
