And this is why American streetcar systems make no sense.
I mean heck most European systems fall somewhere in the middle with long fast trams, and not grade seperation but exclusive lanes and signal priority wherever possible. Simply because thats where trams shine the most and make the most bang for their buck. Who in the world invests this many millions into a tram line yet doesn't even bother to put it in a separate lane from cars???

Well it is possible to give trams their own right of way. One way I really like is to make a grass median with rails embeded.
And waiting at a red light can be almost entirely negated by giving the trams a very high priority in the traffic light's logic. Both of these are common in europe.
The useful part of streetcars/trams is that they can use the existing ground work from pre-existing roads, making the laying of tracks segnificantly cheaper.
Also we could just armour up our trams a bit more for that car destroying power. ;)
Yes I'm aware that your talking more about the negatives about having trains share space with cars, rather than the trams themselves.

Well, Frankfurt's U-Bahn (officially known as a Stadtbahn i.e. LRT and not a real U-Bahn; the trains are of the same family as the trams, for example) still has to abide car traffic at the overground sections (mostly in the norther suburbs) but these are limited to rail crossings, not street running.
That being said, the U-Bahn does use former tram lines (hint: What is LRT?) and it is quite common in Germany to put tram lines between arterial lines which avoids many issues which are mentioned in the video.
Speaking of trams: Frankfurt's trams are more of an exception because of the U-Bahn so right of ways inside arterial are more common in the south while the rest of the network is mostly street running. That being said, Frankfurt is not car centric so trams which are stuck in traffic are only a minor issue.
On the other hand, the tram occasionally does drop you off in the middle of a street (it even is an example on Wikipedia on tram stations for street dropping) which wouldn't be out of place for this video.
"Oh no, I can't reach the platform and I have to drop the passengers off in the middle of the arterial and force them to dodge the incoming traffic!"

I wish Seattle would expand its already pretty dense trolleybus network but metro has cited that they couldn’t find ANY manufacturer in the country who offered trolley buses meeting their required specifications at an affordable enough price.
It’s literally not even a problem of cost when it comes to expanding the trolley catenary infrastructure but with buying the trolleybuses themselves. Like they were able to find cheaper battery powered buses while every trolleybus on the market was listed at extoritionary prices which doesn’t even make sense because giant batteries are expensive af.
Sorry for the rant. It’s just a frustrating issue

Having transit-prioritized lights helps the streetcar out. Cities are just too lazy and too car-centric to try it.
