#durston #x-dome
So the much awaited Durston X-Dome 1+ launched on the 8th October 2024 and it's not quite what I expected or hoped for personally. So I won't be buying one this winter but maybe in the spring. But that's not a criticism, I think it's just aimed more at the ultralight thru hiking self standing tent market. watch out Big Agnes, MSR and Nemo !

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This is a first version that's not for everyone but we are going to add a full solid interior pretty quickly.

I ordered this one. I believe that the current model is good enough for winter too, becaues there is a solid line at the bottom which looks like it will deal with splashbacks. And I prefer the mesh because its better for ventilation. And on hot days, I will be happy I have the mesh, because I can go mesh only and enjoy the stars too:-)

I was in the same boat. Wanted a full 4 season inner...... But couldn't resist and pulled the trigger šŸ˜–

I love that it is a hybrid of the mesh inner and solid inner. It is perfect for my needs, so I ordered it immediately. I had been on the fence between the solid inner and the normal X-Mid, so this one seemed to be the perfect balance.

Totally agree, it might be strong and it's got lots of space for the weight but it's going to be too cold with that mesh inner for winter use. What a fantastic price though, if he can keep the price in that ball park and get the solid inner out then i am definitely in but not for now

What do you reckon is the min temperature this tent would be okay for? Granted a proper sleeping mat and bag.

4 season tents are unnecessary for 98% of all backcountry trips. Itā€™s a niche market.

I'm done with impulsive early release purchases. Nortent burnt me earlier this year. I prefer to wait for proper reviews once the early hype is over
I own the X-Mid 2 Solid and that will do me seasons 1-3 and I've got other proper 4 season tents to cope through Winter months.

I bought this tent it comes on the 2nd batch in April, im happy to use thus for 3 seasons and use my Nortent Vern 1 for that 4th season, but if you watch my pals video Great Raymondo Outdoors he actually puts the Lanshan 1 through a knee deep snowy night

Durston just told me that they bring out a solid some time in 2025

I agree. I donā€™t think this is an upgrade on my x mid to be honest, it looks too lightweight to be taking up the hills in bad weather, but probably great if youā€™re just through hiking and pitching up at campsites.

Waiting for solid inner because cold wind at night is possible all seasons in UK uplands, and we camp in uplands usually as wild camping tolerated/ allowed there !

Solid would be better for 1 person and a dog. Mess ainā€™t the best for dogs they can rip it easy. Not to many tents in this category of a 1.5 tent tho which peeks my interest an I think a lot others trying to down size weight a bit from a 2 person tent would like this. But weight wise think Iā€™ll wait to see if thereā€™s a version in a pro model to get some weight down a solid on the door for my dog. Understand everyoneā€™s needs is different but hasnā€™t met my needs just yet. Just hope thereā€™s more models of this to come

Feel exactly the same way, Andrew. Solid inner sometime in 2025 as per Dan. Was hoping for the robustness of a lighter, wider helm 1. I'm just gonna have to continue sporting the abisko lite 2 in Appalachia this winter.

I have an Oookworks inner for my Trailstar which has 18 inches of solid fabric at the base of the walls and then mesh above. Those 18 inches trap in a lot of warm air so the Durston walls could be warm enough for most of winter. On the Oooknest, when I open the door, cold air falls from outside on to my legs which is how I know that the inner has trapped warm air. The thing which concerns me are the steep walls of the fly. I appreciate that the poles are strong but wind slamming into those walls can't be good. I see that it has guy lines on the corner seams but the website does not show the guy lines deployed so I don't know if you are supposed to wrap them around the poles. Frankly, I'd prefer Soulo-style guy lines on the poles and mid-panel guys as well. Four guy lines doesn't feel like enough for those rare occasions when I get caught out without adequate shelter for the tent.

Check out the Tarptent Arc Dome. Solid four season tent.

You need to move somewhere much warmer than Scotland Andrew - then 4 season tent not necessary šŸ˜Š

Iā€™m exactly the same mate, if they brought out a solid inner I would be getting it. Donā€™t mind waiting for a solid inner on the dome or to see if they bring out a x mid solid 1+ in the meantime the voyager will serve me well, hope youā€™re well bud šŸ‘

How often are you really camping in that 4th season anyways?

What would that cost with import tax, delivery etc? I'm tempted but should be patient and wait for a solid versionšŸ˜Š
