This scene really does justice to how absolutely terrifying Darth Vader is as a stone cold killing machine. The original trilogy didnât have the means to make something similar while the prequel trilogy focused overtly on Jedi vs. Sith lightsaber duels. Seeing a Sith Lord absolutely dominate on a battlefield against normal people truly drives home how powerful and merciless their kind is.

It's nuts, even seeing Star Wars as a child, I was never really "afraid" of Darth Vader. I knew he was the villain and he did bad things but he was never scary to me. But THIS scene, seeing it as an adult, absolutely chilled me.

My favorite thing about this is that it finally shows us why Vader was so feared. He had been leading the Empire's army from the front ranks for years by this point in the film, and he always fought like this so he became a terrifying legend.
There were a lot of star wars comics that covered the years in between films, and I remember in one Vader's Tie-Fighter got shot down and the rebels moved in to try and take him out for good. An entire platoon surrounded his wreckage with weapons drawn and told him to surrender because he was surrounded and had no place to go. Vader took one look around him and nonchalantly replied "The only things I am surrounded by are dead men and fear" before casually using the force to detonate all the grenades on the rebels and begin his rampage amidst the chaos.
This one scene took decades to finally give us a glimpse of that.
