Ironically, one of the reasons for so much of the bad prevailing in the world is because people are fundamentally good. It is difficult to be cynical, and so it is easy to be taken advantage of. Very few people take advantage of others, but it is easy for them to do so because we are all ready to be taken advantage of - because most of the time we are not taken advantage of and anything that looks like taking advantage is actually just community helping each other.

The sad thing is that even the recent Paramount+ Star Trek shows have struggled with promoting this kind of cynical worldview. Not all of them, thankfully, but it's there as an undercurrent that makes the whole franchise feel a little sadder in a way it hasn't really handled well.

The Christian teaching is we are both saint and sinner at once. Our conscience and empathy comes from the Holy Spirit which is in all of us even though we are stained and tempted by original sin. God is constantly reaching out to you whether you've accepted him or not. From other people and from within. We are all His beloved children and he wants us to love each other and Him. This is not an argument, just a statement of faith. Love will always be more powerful than hate.

People think crime is getting worse and worse is because it is getting worse and worse. It’s actually so bad that it stops getting reported because the results are not worth the effort, or, the police have actually said don’t call us unless the crime is in progress🙄

“There are no selfless good deeds.” That’s just the thing. It’s almost impossible for a good deed to convey no benefit whatsoever to the person doing it, because even if there’s no material benefit, our innate sense of empathy means we still gain a psychological benefit. Demanding that good deeds be utterly selfless in order to count as good is setting humanity up to fail, turning our greatest strength into a weakness.
